Habs/Panthers preview, NHL trade deadline, Rumours, Pierre Gauthier fired?

Morning Hab addicts!

There are just about 24 hours until the NHL trade deadline and the tension is steadily building. Not that there have been a ton of moves.

There haven't.

But the rumours and innuendo are swirling fast and furious.

Speaking of rumours, TSN 990's Tony Marinaro dropped a bombshell yesterday, saying that Pierre Gauthier is about to be fired. Moreover, he went on to say that Geoff Molson has taken over as GM until they can find a replacement in the off-season.

Molson was quick to take to Twitter to deny the story. But, love him or hate him, Marinaro has a tendency to be connected to the Habs and often gets hidden stories.

We'll see how this one plays out but, would it surprise anyone else if it ended up being true?

I cannot see a reason to keep either Pierre Gauthier or Randy Cunneyworth around. Neither has produced much in the way of results for this team. If they are indeed going forward with an overhaul why not overhaul management as well. Start fresh next season and lets see what happens. It can only go up from the cellar....

@Hirky: Can't argue with that my friend. Although, to be honest, I like what I've seen from Cunneyworth. The problem is that after that stretch where the Habs were winning, they lost a few in a row.

That, imo, put a major dent in most of the players' belief that they could still make the playoffs. As such, many of them gave up...and you can see it on the ice.

Cunneyworth is/was in a lose-lose situation. That said, I still think he is a good coach.

As for PG, well, more and more I am hearing that he is already out of the picture. It seems like Larry Carriere might be running the ship right now!
