One has to admire the Buffalo Sabres' resiliency, no?
A few weeks ago, they were left for dead in the Eastern playoff race. Or, as we would say in French, on vendait pas chere la peau des Sabres.
But, after going 7-3-3 in February and 6-2-2 in their last ten games, Buffalo has brought itself back into the post-season conversation.
With last night's 3-0 win over the Habs, they have even moved into a tie with the Washington Capitals for the final playoff berth.
And, to boot, next Tuesday they face those Capitals in a what should be a crucial match-up. Sounds like something worth watching to me.

You left out 1 pertinent aspect of the Sabres push to the playoffs as it relates to the Habs...Sabres were tied with us in points 6 weeks ago. Habs had a chance to make the playoffs and failed to have the leadership on the ice, behind the bench and in the executive suite to achieve that feat...and I daresay the fans. The crowds have been tame and the "fail for" crowd gave up well before the Habs were out of it. Really frustrating year and questionable future for those of us that bleed bleu, blanc and rouge.
@blockersave93: You make a great point, my friend! The bottom line is that as bad as this season has been, the Habs have had ample opportunity to turn things around and make the playoffs.
But, to be honest, I think missing the playoffs this year will do them better going forward. Getting a high draft pick and cleaning out management (if that's what happens this summer), is just what the doctor ordered.
With the right man heading steering the ship (GM), the Habs shouldn't be a basement dweller for too long. In fact, there are many pieces already in place that could make them a good team soon and a great team in a few years.
There is a lot riding on this off season. Now will be time for Geoff Molson to show fans his true colours!

You are right, a change at the GM position, as long as it's the right person could really be a big step in the right direction. As much as I like Cunney we will also need a new coach. The high draft pick could even be in our top 6 forwards or top 4 D next year.
