According to a recent TSN report, it appears that Bobby Ryan's name is once again on the trade market.
Frankly, I don't think I need to tell my Habs-fan bretheren how much a player like Ryan could serve the often diminutive Canadiens.
A physical, 6'2", 209 lb forward with the ability to score 30 goals is something every team could use.
So, here is my question to you this morning: What would you be willing to give up, if anything, in a trade for Bobby Ryan?

You know I'm going to disagree. Why? Ryan is big but he's not physical. 53 PIM's, 1 Major, 113 hits. That was his 2011-12 season.
He's big, he's skilled, he's talented but he's not aggressive or physical at all.
But with that said would I trade for him......no thanks.
Right off the top we must ask what sort of deal the Habs would have to propose to land the guy and the answer is probably something like: Rene Bourque, Nathan Beaulieu, Lars Eller and the 2012 2nd round pick or remove Eller and the 2nd and replace it with a 1st.
IMO Anaheim will ask for too much, some team will pay it but he wouldn't be worth it. The same thing applies in regards to Rick NaSH.
Just not the guys we should be going after.
MB, at least by his off ice hirings, seems to like gritty, character driven, hard working guys so those are the types of players i expect him to target.
Off the top, offering a contract to guy's like Ryan Smyth, Shane Doan, Jarret Stoll, Ryan Suter, Zack Parise, Bryce Salvador, Paul Gaustad, Travis Moen, Jay McClement, David Moss.
I would agree with Bryan, the asking price will be likely be too high. I would certainly make a call to see what they are looking for.
I would think they would ask for Subban, Eller & a pick.
For UFAs, the obvious Suter and Parise but that's highly unlikely to happen.
Doan would be great but that is also unlikely.
Gaustad, Moen, Bryan Allen, Salvador, Brandon Prust,
Matt Carkner, Konopka, Jagr, Parros, McClement,
Willie Mitchell, Dustin Penner, Clayton Stoner,Daniel Winnik would be names worth discussing.
We need a top 6 forward, a top 4 d-man, a physical number 7 d-man, 2-3 bottom 6 forwards with grit.
Most of these should be possible to fill from UFAs, we may not get our first or 2nd choice but there are some veterans that could give us 1 or 2 years until some prospects are ready.
@Bry: I think you make a good point that the asking price would be over the top for Ryan.
To be honest, if he really is available, I think it makes sense that the Leafs make a pitch for him. Especially since Burke drafted him and the Leafs are sure to lose out on the Nash sweepstakes.
As such, I wouldn't be surprised to see him in a Leafs jersey next season.
@HH: You make a good point in that the Habs should certainly be able to shore up their bottom six with tough, physical free agents.
The bigger challenge is going to be getting a top-6 winger and a top-4 (3??) D-man.

I would trade Plekanec + Weber or Diaz for Ryan; but Marleau will be a new Hab come July 2nd, so moot.

Plekanec and Weber for Ryan would result in anaheim hanging up the phone.
Overpayment is why they'll trade him.
It's just not worth it.

For a top 6 winger I could see Jagr or Penner as serious possibilities that will not cost a fortune.
Doan would be my first choice but I doubt that will happen.
For a top 4 d-man, Mitchell or Salvador would be a nice fit. There are other UFAs that could fit the bill as well.
I agree, not likely to see Marleau in a Habs uniform, too expensive and not the type of player Bergevin seems to like.
Ryan is a nice player like Marleau. Dont' want either.Ryan is a big , no physical guy as Bryan points out.
I'll take a Parise type...endless motor..fierce compete level etc..but we need to find that guy in the draft. FA is way too expensive and risky. You are getting an older guy who will most likely be overpaid in a very short time.
When a guy with the measurables of a Ryan is seemingly on the trading block each offsesaon, you have to ask why. Teams don't like giving up guys like that.

And what kind of player does Bergevin like and normally has traded for in the past? This i want to hear.
How bout Joe Thorton, Paul Stastny, would be 2 others that may fit nicely at centre.
Paranteau is RW and dont need RW and you can bet Stall and Parise wont be coming to Quebec anytime soon.

I agree with Kamal here - not sure Marleau fits Bergevin's currently established mold.

Parenteau could always switch wings and, as a decently sized local boy, he should get some consideration from Bergevin. Besides, as a scoring option, I would think he would do better than Rene Bourque and also help placate AK46's departure a bit.
Definitely take Ryan, he is another guy we need. I would trade Gionta, Weber, Ellis, a second round next year and (don't laugh) Gomez. The only reason I see Gomez moving is to get Anaheim above the cap floor. His hit is 7.35 over the next 2 years with 10M actually paid.
Gionta replaces some of the scoring, Weber can step in now, Ellis should be a very good D and a second round pick should bring in some value. Montreal gets a goal scorer, has plenty of D in the system, has 2 second round picks and sheds some salary.
