Canadiens sign Lars Eller to a two-year contract

MONTREAL – Montreal Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin announced Friday the signing of forward Lars Eller to a two-year contract (2012-13 and 2013-14). As per club policy, financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Eller, 23, completed his third season in the NHL in 2011-12, his second with the Canadiens. The centre set personal marks in games played (79), goals (16), assists (12) and points (28). Two of his goals were scored on the powerplay and two others on the penalty kill. Eller tallied two winning goals and registered 129 shots on goal. He served 66 penalty minutes, while averaging 15:18 seconds of ice time per game.

Since 2009-10, Eller has registered 47 points (25 goals, 22 assists) in 163 NHL regular-season games. The 6’2’’, 201 lbs forward has recorded 118 penalty minutes. Eller has scored three of his goals on the powerplay. He has accumulated two assists in seven career NHL playoff contests.

A native of Rodovre, Denmark, Eller was acquired, along with Ian Schultz, from St. Louis on June 17, 2010, in return for Jaroslav Halak.
