What do you think of the Carey Price deal?

You probably have already heard by now but in case you haven't, Carey Price signed a two year, $5.5 million deal with the Montreal Canadiens yesterday.

I'm overseas right now but just wanted to provide you all with a few reading links for your information.

I have always been a big Price supporter. I like the deal, although, I am more nervous about how he will bounce back than I was last year at this time. Hopefully all the talk of extra work through the summer is true and it pays dividends.

How many times have we heard that hockey is no longer a game but a business.

The way I see it Price is a product or a commodity. Now this product has to be produced. The cost of production in Canada is at one price and the cost of production in China for instance is alot less.

Similarly, a contract in Montreal is taxed at 50%. That very same contract in Florida (where there is no state tax) brings you alot more value.

Therefore Price at $3.0 million is almost right on part with a contract of $1.5-$2.0 million in Florida.

It is the cost of doing business. It is simply more expensive in Montreal.

With that said I expect big things from this kid this year. Price will excel.

It's a bit higher than I'd like, and frankly while I like Price, I need him to be solid in nets this year for me to like this salary. That also means more goal support from the team.

I like that it's only 2 years, so it's a fair deal both ways. The team is not whacked by a long term contract, and Price is still RFA at the end of it. If he performs like I think he will, he'll earn a nice, healthy raise to boot.

I just don't care to see any more media clips of his antics distracting from his game, and giving the haters more rope to hang him with.
