The 2012 NHL entry draft is now in the books, and what a draft it was!
We didn't see players like Roberto Luongo or Rick Nash traded (yet), but others like Jordan Staal were moved. In addition, the Leafs and Flyers swapped Luke Schenn and James Van Riemsdyk.
On the latter trade, did you really expect Brian Burke to go through draft weekend without making some kind of splash?
Me either.
On the Habs front, many are saying that the Habs came out as the biggest winner of this year's draft. Picking Alex Galchenyuk with their third overall pick, the Habs scooped Sebastian Collberg and Dalton Thrower in the second round.
These picks were rated, overall, much higher and Collberg was expected to go in the first round.
Sound like success to me!

I think we had a great draft!
Nothing more to be said on Galchenyuk, he was our man and we got him. Hopefully we have our future big number 1 center.
The gems are Collberg & Thrower.
Collberg was almost a steal when you look at how he was ranked.
ISS had him ranked 13,
NHL Central Scouting had him ranked as the 3rd best European skater and
Hockey News had him 14th.
We got him at 33.
He is projected as a possible 1st line winger, has huge offensive upside.
Thrower is a beast, he fought Tom Wilson who is 6'4" and supposed to be the toughest guy in the draft at the prospects game and got a draw.
ISS had him at 28,
NHL CS had him at 26th best NA skater
Hockey News had him at 29.
We got him at 51.
Projected as a top 4 d-man with a mean streak and good offense.
What a great job by our rookie GM!
@HH: Too true. Look, it takes time to see how a draft really works out, and you never want to put too much pressure on a prospect.
But the bottom line is that Montreal grabbed three players ranked (generally) in the top-30, with their first three picks.
So, essentially, three first-rounders. That is beyond impressive (and a little lucky too)...especially Collberg. This kid is being compared to Daniel Alfreddson.
Right now, this smells like the Habs' most successful draft since 2007 when they picked McDonough, Pacioretty, Subban, and Weber with four out of their first five picks!
I wouldnt underestimate Bozon. The kid is like Gallagher/Collberg; has a nose for net and can score. 4 highly skilled kids.
Vail sounds like a character player, similar to Bournival/Holland.

You are right, Bozon sounds like he could have the potential to be a 2nd line winger down the road.
Vail more a bottom 6 as you say.
Even the last pick Erik Nystrom seems to have some sleeper potential.
Not sure about Hudon, sounds more like another small. Quebec born AHLer but I hope I'm wrong.
