Bergevin Locks Down Price for Six Years
Carey Price - G

The Cost
Price's new contract will earn him $5.5 million in his first year, $5.75 and $6.75 million the following two years and the remaining three years will fetch him $7 million.
As a result, the contract will have a $6.5 million cap hit per year.
The contract may seem pricey — pun intended — to some as Price has yet to reach his full potential and is now one of the highest paid goalies in the NHL.
If you ask me, I feel for now it seems a bit much but I have no doubt that by the end of it it will have been worth it. Which is why it makes sense that it is backloaded.
Performance
The numbers put up by Price last year weren't exactly jaw dropping but when you take into account the team in front of him they become more impressive.
With Markov out for 59 games, and a defensive corps that included Chris Campoli, Tomas Kaberle and Yannick Weber, his save percentage and goals against average could have been a lot worse.
As for his record, in the 39 losses the Canadiens suffered with Price between the pipes — 11 in OT/Shoot outs — there were 26 occasions in which the Habs scored two times or less. Furthermore, in 20 of those losses the Canadiens scored one goal or less, getting shut out six times.
That being said, it is clear that Price is doing his part. It seems quite evident that if the players in front of him can bury their oppurtunities, Price will reward them with a chance to win on most nights.
The Fit
After signing on to be the team's goalie of the future, Price will continue with his heavy workloads in the blue paint and can be expected to play around 70 games in 2012-13.
Has Price done enough in your eyes to earn the dollars received in his new contract?

it isnt that much, i believe as long as your goalie is getting 10% or less of the cap, teams can manage, especially the habs who usually spend the max.
Good stuff, as always, Sean!

Agreed, the deal is fair. In fact, the 6.5 cap hit sets Price squarely in the middle of other high-end goalies like Rinne, Quick, Miller, Lundqvist and Ward.
