Morning puck fans!
If the UFA season kicked off with a bang it's been pretty quiet since. Then again, the big twin bombs were already deployed when Zach Parise and Ryan Suter both signed with the Wild.
On the Habs front, GM Marc Bergevin is surely still looking to add a top-6 winger and probably a hard-hitting stay-at-home defenseman. However those are scenarios that will likely only happen through trade, since there are few, it any legit options on the open market.
That said, Bergevin was able to check another item off his to-do list yesterday, signing RFA Lars Eller to a two year, $2.65 million deal.
The contract will pay him a digestible $1.15 million in year one and $1.5 in year two.
A fair deal for both sides and one that will allow Eller to truly come into his own. If he becomes the two-way center the Habs hope he will he stands to cash out nicely on his next contract.
In general NHL news, our own Louis Moustakas was talking the Parise/Suter deals, as well as a little Habs, with the gents from CKCU Red Zone. Have a listen and enjoy your weekend!

Good signing. It would seem he is already a good 2 way Center. Give him at least one consistent line mate with some finish and he could be a 40-45pt 3rd line Center which would put him as one of the better ones in the league. He seems to already have more offensive skills than most 3rd line Centers.
Considering we are not likely to be Cup contenders this year I would not give up any young assets to pick up a 2nd line winger or a top 4 d-man unless it is really in our favor. Everyone is going to want our top prospects. I don't see many saying give me Weber or Diaz and a 2nd round pick for my 25-30 goal scoring winger.
I think if he's healthy Huselius could be a nice short term solution on the UFA market.
Build from within and I think you will have more long term success.
I don't want any player, prospect or draft pick traded except Gomez, Kaberle and Bourque. If there are no takers for those 3 then leave it alone and let our young talent develop. Once Gomez and Kaberle are gone in 2 years then the skis the limit....patience!
