Well, it sure seems that the Carolina Hurricanes are not messing around this summer.
After trading for Jordan Staal, signing Marc-André Gragnani, Joe Corvo and Alex Semin, Jim Rutherford is now apparently close to inking Jeff Skinner to a long-term extension.
Bob McKenzie reports that the deal is for six years at around $5.75 million per season.
Given their similar ages and importance to their teams, one has to wonder if this deal will somehow impact the contract P.K Subban eventually receives. And, yes, I know one is a forward and another a defenseman.

I think the numbers were probably already in that range for PK, this just reinforces that it is his true value in the current economic system.
It would seem like a good comparable even if they don't play the same position.
I think if we can get him for 6 years 30M it could turn out to be a great contract for the Habs in years 3-6 and we will overpay a little in the first 2.
My fear is that it may take more than Skinner's contract when you factor in Quebec taxes.
Price took $2.75 for 2 years, so a 2 yeasr deal at $3-3.25 forPK should be more than fair.
don
I don't know that Price is a good comparable, he was coming off a year where he lost his job to Halak.
PK is clearly our number 1 d-man and could arguably be ranked in the top 20-25 d-men in the league already.
With all the contracts being given to young studs I think it would be a mistake to not lock him up long term.
After 2`years, assuming he improves even a little he will be in line for 6-8M per depending on the cap.
Plus there is also the possibility that you really piss him off and he leaves the first chance he gets.
