Drafted 22nd overall in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft by the Canadiens and Trevor Timmins, the 6'6'', 215-lb rugged defenseman has made great strides offensively and defensively since last season. Tinordi played eight games with the Habs in 2012-13, notching two assists, after spending most of the campaign in the AHL with the Hamilton Bulldogs. In 67 games with the farm club, Tinordi scored 2 goals and 9 assists for 11 points to go along with 71 penalty minutes. The son of Mark worked very hard on his positioning and his skating during the lock-out with great success.
With Alexei Emelin out at least until December with a serious knee injury and Davis Drewiske slated to miss a least one month with a shoulder injury, Tinordi is bound to begin the season in Montreal, we just don't know his role yet. A left-handed defenseman, Tinordi would be guaranteed a regular spot if he was right-handed with only P.K. Subban and Raphael Diaz as RHD on the Habs' defensive brigade.
As a result, Tinordi will have to battle with veteran Francis Bouillon and newcomer Douglas Murray for playing time on the left side (assuming Josh Gorges and Andrei Markov are the top-two defensemen on the left side).
While Josh Gorges and Francis Bouillon can also play on the right side, head coach Jarred Tinordi is not convinced the rookie would be able to make such a transition as shown last night against the New Jersey Devils when JT was tried on his unnatural side without much success. With Emelin out of the line-up, Tinordi is the best option to replace the physical element that Emelin Boom gave the team last season before his terrible knee injury. With Subban, Markov and Diaz all offensive-minded rearguards, the remaining four defensemen, namely Gorges, Bouillon, Murray and Tinordi, will be asked to provide toughness and grit in front of Carey Price and play heavy minutes on the penalty kill.
Will Michel Therrien go with the experience and defensive awareness and dress Bouillon and Murray, or will he go with speed and toughness and dress Tinordi? With two exhibition games remaining before the start of the season on October 1st, I'm fairly certain we'll see Tinordi at least one more time, especially if Douglas Murray is unable to go as he is still nursing a groin injury.
I consider Tinordi to be the team's fourth best defenseman already behind Subban, Markov and Gorges, and you where do you see him?

It's crazy how far he came since the end of last season. He looked shy, timid, afraid to pinch, afraid to take the body and small.
Advance one off season and yu can see the confidence and physicality.
Only issue I have with him is that he chanegd his number from 42 to 24.....now what am I going to do with my Tinordi Jersey?
I stated in my '5 Burning Questions' column that Tinordi would better served playing top-pairing minutes in the AHL this year. I felt he needed to work on his positioning, offensive abilities and overall consistency. Having watched him so far this pre-season, its clear that he may have already taken that step with his off-season training.
Fresh legs with physicality might be the better option going forward than slogging out Doug Murray every night. He may be someone you can pair up with Diaz on the third pairing and not worry about.
Overall, tremendous improvement. I'd slot him as our #5, slightly behind Diaz. And only because Diaz has more NHL experience.
Don't do anything with your Tinordi #42 jersey, as I'm not doing anything with mine. It shows you were the original band wagon

Fred Poulin, I totally agree with you, Bergevin made a big mistake signing Briere, (another small player) and Murray (he's just getting home from Monday night's game). We have a spot for Tinordi and Bourival, save all that cap space for a better player too. With Subban going to ask between $7.5 and $8 Mil , why waster money on two players that wont improve us?? Next years free agent class is the best it has been in years.
Looking at the Canadiens defense, what I see is a Markov that is about done. Gorges is just lousy lately, Boullion and Diaz are midgets. I sure hope that we give Tinordi and Beaulieu a chance soon. Hopefully Emelin will make it back. Until Bergevin arrived, gotta wonder what Gainey and Gauthier were doing for a decade but messing this once proud franchise up. Suggestion to Habs fans, Visit other hockey sites besides Habs site to get a Real view of how badly this team has been run for years. Get an outside opinion, one without rose colored glasses. Do you realize almost half your roster is filled with players other teas dont want. Visit Puck Daddy site and talk all that delusional Habs nonsense. Your team stinks and Ottawa proved it.

Has anyone seen any of these pre season games, just came back from a Habs site during tonights Montreal vs Ottawa game, think it's the Habs Fifth game so far, Where are Eller and Galchenyuk in these games, fans are referring to Lars Eller as copletely Loafing out there. Is it because of the injury, is he gonna be another Andrei Kostitsyn, playing whenever he wants?? This team sees that line as the Future, I think we're in trouble.
@anon, I think he answer is simple. Eller/Gally's are not yet 1st line players. So in games like Ottawa where they are the only NHL line out there against an almost complete Ottawa team then it is hard to control play.
Tonight when Pleks, Desharnais, Pacioretty, etc are all playing then we'll see the kids in a 3rd line capacity where they are going up against 3rd and 4th line guys.

A player like Murray doesn;t help in the regular season but wait for the playoffs. It's where guys like Murray/Gill usually show their value.
As for signing them this year, not sure how that impacts decision for next season.
As it stands the belief is that the cap is going up as much as $10 million. Add this to the fact that we have expiring contracts to Markov, Bouillon, Diaz, Emelin, Murray, Gionta, parros, Blunden and the Habs have an extra $18.5 million to play with.
Imagine Bergevin having the luxury of $28.5 million knowing very well that we have Tinordi, beaulieu almost surely a lock on D. All of our Forward unit pretty much returning.
Don't woprry about next season at all, it's where this team goes from potentially good to great

Larek here from Habfans.com What I notice here is simply a difference of opinion. Just want to point out a few FACTS, Things that both sides here cannot dispute. First, the Habs havent won a Stanley Cup since 1993.
Second, Alot of Habs fans here were also the same people that Swore Bob Gainey knew what he was doing. He Disn't..
Finally, let's give Bergevin a chance. We are so afraid of how poorly this team has been run in the past, let the man do hiss job.
So far two drafts look great, what I wish he Hadn;t done is sign Desharnais, Moen and Briere. Hopefully DD will bounce back.. And stop drafting all these Smurfs.
