Another great Sunday Shinny episode. I am throwing my 2 cents in on some topics you guys discussed. Here goes:

1)Coach Martin: Never been a fan, but hard to question him with the results they have gotten. I think that I would rather see a more offensive minded coach but would Carey Price suffer from forwards not back-checking? With the team only getting younger i say a former player would help bring the kids along properly. Possible candidates in my mind:

Kirk Muller(been saying it for months). Former player, great at both ends of the rink. A great team guy. A logical choice.

Mark French - Hershey(AHL). Montreal always wants french coaches, his name is French how ironic. Not a former player but coached the Bears to a Calder Cup championship.

Kevin Dineen - Portland(AHL). Everyone always says he is a great coach. Also, former player who was always respected. Portland leads the AHL in Goals For. That kind of coaching can only help the Habs.

Patrick Roy - Quebec(QMJHL). Why not? The fans would love it. The Remparts are the least penalized team in the 'Q'. That would also help the Habs. A who knows the Montreal media better than Mr.Roy.

One thing to remember is 1 coach doesnt make a staff. Jacques cant take all the credit for wins, or all the criticism for losses. As a whole the staff needs direct the team down the right path right?

2)PK Subban - I believe in the double standard here also. PK was always loved by everyone in junior for his smile, his charisma and his demeanor. Now they seem to think it is something he needs to change. I dont get it. I think playing with Hal Gill has helped. He has reeled in the 'Subbanianism's. As for the celebrations, I say the more the better. No one ever questions Ovie's passionate 'glass dives'. Only the 'stick on fire' drew criticism which i think was unwarranted. Did you ever hear anyone complain when Teemu shot his glove out of the air? I say C-E-L-E-B-R-A-T-E!!

I want to throw a topic your way. Why does everyone always trash the Montreal brass for players being shipped out, when the players they got in return could be better. The examples I have heard lately: Ryan O'Byrne, Mikhail Grabovski, Matt D'Agostini. I have faith that Michal Bournival(for O'Byrne), Aaron Palushaj(for D'Agostini), and Jarrod Tinordi(pick acquired from TO then sent to PHX for JT) will be decent Habs players. The guys who left never put it together with Montreal, so why keep them? Ryan McDonagh is the only guy i thought never should have left this organization. The kid was a blue-chip prospect that never even got a shot. Although i thought Gomez was going to be good for the Habs. LOL.

Let me know your thoughts....

until next time....

Hey Hirky!

Re: coaching...I'm not a fan of Martin either, but it is hard to argue with the success the team has had this year. Especially considering the huge losses of Gorges and Markov.

I would also like to see a more offensive-minded coach but would stay away from rookie coaches. I firmly believe that Patrick Roy will someday become part of the Habs organization, and maybe even as a coach. But I'd like to see him get experience at the NHL level before going behind the Habs bench.

Re: players shipping out of town, great points there!

I think as an organization there comes a time with any prospect where they are either going to work under your current regime or not.

With most of those players, it wasn't going to workout under Jacques Martin. Ryan O'Byrne, however, is a player I don't believe they should have moved. You can teach defense but you can't teach size...and the Habs are sorely lacking in that department!

That being said, JM didn't like O'Byrne and he would never have worked out in Montreal.

Ryan McDonagh being included in the Gomez deal was grand larceny. I'm have no idea how Slats convinced Gainey that this was a good move.
