Habs ink Brendan Gallagher to a 3-year deal
MONTREAL – Canadiens general manager Pierre Gauthier announced Wednesday the signing of forward Brendan Gallagher to a three-year (2012-13 to 2014-15). As per club policy, financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
After 18 games with the WHL Vancouver Giants, Gallagher ranks first on his team and seventh in the league with 31 points (18 goals and 13 assists). He leads the Giants and comes fifth in the WHL for goals (18), and ranks second in the league for powerplay goals (8). The 5’08’’ and 174 lbs right winger displays a +8 plus/minus differential and served 25 penalty minutes.
Named Team WHL captain for the fifth game of the 2011 Subway Super Series, Gallagher will take part in tonight’s game against Team Russia, in Regina, Saskatchewan.
A native of Edmonton, Alberta, Gallagher, 19, has recorded 234 points (113 goals and 121 assists) in 208 games since his junior debut with Vancouver. He was drafted in the fifth round, 147th overall by the Canadiens at the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. Gallagher took part in his second training camp with the Canadiens in 2011, playing in five preseason games, recording one assist (0-1-1), 14 shots on goal and 4 penalty minutes. He was returned to the WHL Giants on September 30.

With the Canadiens signing him and recently getting Tinordi under contract, the future looks quite promising. Never quite understood those who dislike Timmins and Co. work at the draft table.
@Louis: Too true!
As for Timmins, I think he has actually selected more players that are playing in the NHL than any other team (over his tenure).
The problem with Timmins is and continues to be his first round failings. He has never hit a home run in the first round...but that looks like it is changing with Price and Pacioretty.
Still, there have been a lot of duds...
@KP I think given the fact that Price, Pacioretty and Subban were all drafted by Timmins it is now hard to argue that he has not hit that home run.
There is also much praise over the drafting of Leblanc, Tinordi and Beaulieu who all look prime to being really good NHL players.
I think much of the criticism is due to the fact that we drafted Kostitsyn instead of Getzlaf or Carter or Richards or whoever else was drafted that year.
None the less with Kristo, Gallagher, Tinordi, Leblanc, Beaulieu, and I will even lump in Bournival and Archambeault on the horizon combined with Eller, Subban, Price, Pacioretty, Weber, Emelin already on the team.....there is a ton of promise for this team.
@Bryan: Yep, the Kostitsyn thing hangs around Timmins' neck like an albatross. He has also had burnouts like David Fisher.
That said, in recent years, he has been stocking the cupboard with some great players.
Oh and Subban was NOT a 1st round pick. He went in the 2nd round.
@Kp.....I know Subban was a second. Saying he has drafted a nucleus of franchise and/or potential franchise players. So many teams aroung this league struggle to do this.
I think his drafting has been fantastic. Now I just want to see him start to select some more big Canadian Boys from out West.
